Jew Versus Jew Versus Jew Versus Jew

Donald Trump takes a lot of heat for being antisemitic, an allegation that he denies. After all, how could he possibly be antisemitic, when there’s such grand collusion with his bestie Bibi Netanyahu, the Prime Minister of the Jewish State of Israel – who stands indicted for war crimes and crimes against humanity by the International Criminal Court? Trump fully supports Zionism, up to and including complicity in the ethnic cleansing of Palestinians from Gaza – real estate that Trump personally wants to own as prime beachfront property. Meanwhile, he launches libelous smears, poisonous threats, and financial assaults against student protesters and universities that he falsely accuses of antisemitism, across the country, on the college campus, in student organizations, and in the public square.

But then, he goes and drops an antisemitic trope, and then acts oblivious and claims ignorance of how a reference to “Shylock” is likely to be heard by Jews. Last year, during the electoral campaign, he denounced the majority of Jews – who voted Democratic – for showing a “total lack of knowledge or great disloyalty.” He threatened to blame “the Jews” (all Jews), if he were to lose the election.

He was on record rejecting Black people as accountants, in favor of Jews: “The only kind of people I want counting my money are short guys that wear yarmulkes every day,” he said. But, after the 2017 “Unite the Right” march and riot, in Charlottesville VA, where a young white protester was murdered, and where Proud Boys, Oath Keepers, neo-Nazis and Klansmen chanted “We will not be replaced by Jews,” Trump argued that there were “very fine people on both sides.” And, campaigning as a supposedly anti-establishment candidate who promised to “drain the swamp” of corruption, Trump insinuated that Jews in government and finance, like then-Federal Reserve Board Chair Janet Yellen, Goldman Sachs CEO Lloyd Blankfein, and philanthropist George Soros “control the levers of power in Washington,” and “don’t have your good in mind.”

So what gives? Is he or isn’t he antisemitic? At the least, he is inconsistent, a study in cognitive dissonance. A two-faced Gemini with a con-man’s forked tongue.

Trump’s Jews

They say you can know somebody partly by the company that person keeps. So consider here an incomplete list of Jews who comprise a significant minority contingent of Trump’s entourage. Here, Jewish identity is understood broadly, based partly on genealogical descent and ethnic tradition, partly on lived experience. It is not necessarily an attribute of denomination or observance of religious practice or ritual. Sometimes the identity is based on ascription, sometimes achievement, sometimes a Jewish mother, sometimes a Kosher diet – and a craving for crispy fried bacon.

In general, Trump’s Jews (like the non-Jews) are white MAGA Republicans and arch-Zionists, who are just fine with Palestinian genocide. Many are billionaires, or at least multi-millionaires, often enough with aristocratic, plutocratic, oligarchic, authoritarian, and even fascist tendencies. Shameless, full of superiority, condescension and contempt for those who don’t live charmed lives, they can be expected to follow blindly, in a hypnotic trance, cult devotees, unable to think or speak for themselves, professing undying obedience and fealty to Trump, their hero, whose swollen cankles they worship, bowing and scraping, begging for approval, no matter the cost to their already calloused souls.

In some loose sense of order:

> Son-in-law Jared Kushner and daughter Ivanka, and their kids (Trump’s grandchildren), are practicing Modern Orthodox Jews. In Trump’s 1st term, Jared was purveyor of the so-called Abraham Accords, which pretended to “normalize” relations between Israel and several Arab nations, including Saudi Arabia – which invested some $2 billion in Jared’s project, and would have sold out Palestine completely, had their deal not been thwarted by the violent Hamas breakout of October 7, 2023.

> Charles Kushner: Jared’s daddy, real-estate tycoon, who was convicted and served prison time for corruption, was then pardoned by Trump, and is now US Ambassador to France.

> Roy Cohn (RIP): Trump’s early mentor, Senator Joe McCarthy’s attorney, hair-on-fire anti-communist crusader, who prosecuted fellow Jews – Julius and Ethel Rosenberg – as Soviet spies, leading to their executions, in 1953. A closet gay, outed and then forsaken by Trump, he died of AIDS.

> Stephen Miller: Deputy Chief of Staff, Roy Cohn redux, venomous and odious architect of border, deportation, and immigrant family separation policy, advocates nationwide purge of “leftists.”

> Boris Epshteyn: Trump’s personal senior counsel, White House puppet master, and 1st term adviser.

> Allen Weiselberg: Trump Organization accountant, fall-guy imprisoned for Trump’s financial crimes.

> Ghislaine Maxwell: Convicted and imprisoned sex-trafficker of underage girls, Epstein’s accomplice, recruited underage girls for Epstein’s perversions at Trump’s Mar-a-Lago property.

> Robert Maxwell (RIP): Ghislaine’s daddy, Mossad agent or asset, publishing baron, Trump’s one-time “business associate,” embezzler, suspicious death at sea.

Biden’s Jews

One of the frequent logical errors that almost everybody makes is generalization. The idea that “The Jews” (all Jews) can be generalized in some way is one really common mistake, especially among Jews. They say that if you put two Jews together, you get three opinions. So it stands to reason that Trump’s Jews cannot be taken to represent all Jews. Trump cannot possibly speak for all Jews, either.

They tell us that there are some 15.8 million Jews in a world of some 8 billion people (.002%). About 7.2 million Jews are in Israel, and about 6.3 million in the United States (about 2.5% of the national population of some 330 million). The rest are to be found mostly in big cities in other countries, like Canada, France, Mexico, Argentina, Germany, Russia, Australia, and the UK.

American Jews mostly live in or near big cities, very few in rural areas. About one third identify without any sectarian denomination; roughly another third identify as Reform; about 15 percent practice as Conservatives, 10 percent identify as Orthodox, and a few identify as Reconstructionist. Despite their small minority, the Orthodox tend to dominate recognized authority in the political space of non-Jews. In the formerly imperial Spanish Southwest, there are still some Jews who are called “cryptos” – whose tradition is to practice Christian ritual, and keep their Jewish identity a close secret.

The overall population can be sliced and diced in numerous ways: between those who are “observant” and those who are secular, between Ashkenazis and Sephardim, between Republicans and Democrats, between liberals and conservatives, between Zionists and anti-Zionists, between modern-age Sadducees and Pharisees (banksters and rabbis), and often enough, between any two given individuals, like Abbie Hoffman and Henry Kissinger, or Medea Benjamin and Antony Blinken, or Jerry Seinfeld and Jon Stewart. It’s a great big dysfunctional family, taken at large. And it is historically very tribal. The focus here is more on American Jews, rather than Israelis, in political life.

Looking back on Joe Biden’s recent single term as POTUS, another tribe of Jews can be identified as a significant minority element in his particular entourage. Most of these are Democrats, of course, and in some level of conflict with Trump’s MAGA Republicans. Like the non-Jewish Democrats, Biden’s Jews tend to be “social liberals,” who advocate for “diversity, equality and inclusion” (DEI), voting rights, equitable taxation, environmental protection, and “democratic socialism,” especially as it applies to FDR’s and LBJ’s “welfare state” institutions of Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid, and other marginally “progressive” policies, like Obama’s “affordable” healthcare program. While Democratic voters apparently are beginning to view “democratic socialism” (as advocated by Bernie Sanders and others) more favorably than capitalism, the Democrat leadership has lost touch with its base.

As Harris insisted in her doomed campaign, Biden’s Democrats, including the Jews, are most definitely not real Socialists, much less Communists – as so often smeared by Trump. “They mostly follow the path broken by POTUS Bill Clinton (1993-2001), who openly dragged the Democratic Party hard to the right, defining a new political “center” by co-opting right-wing Reaganite policies, like anti-socialist privatization (“free trade”), abolition of key welfare programs (like AFDC), and amplification of a harsh “law and order” regime built on the War on Drugs, punitive incarceration (rather than “correction”), mandatory sentencing, and expanded prison construction.

They were never peaceniks. They fell in line with Cold War militarism, Russophobia, Sinophobia, Obama’s continuation of the wars in Iraq, Afghanistan, Syria, Libya, and the “pivot to Asia,” military base expansion, airstrikes and drone warfare, “kill lists,” and immigrant deportation. And, of particular importance here, Biden’s Jews (along with the non-Jewish Democrat majority) mostly shared militant Zionism with Trump’s Jews, and are still complicit in Israel’s campaign of military occupation, apartheid, ethnic cleansing, and genocide.

In this incomplete list of Biden’s Jews, we find his son Beau’s wife Hallie Olivere, his son Hunter’s wife Melissa Cohen, Kamala Harris’ husband Doug Emhoff, Chief of Staff Ron Klain, Secretary of State Antony Blinken, Deputy Secretary of State Victoria Nuland, Deputy Secretary of State Wendy Sherman, Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas, CIA Director General Avril Haines, Ambassador to India Eric Garcetti, Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen, Attorney General Merrick Garland, White House Spokesman Ned Price, and that most favorite of MAGA and Q-Anon scapegoats, the philanthropist and financier George Soros (founder of the Open Society Institute).

Neocon Jews

During the POTUS George W Bush years (2001-09), which were dominated by the so-called Global War on Terror (GWOT), an upstart tribe of Cold Warrior and Zionist imperialists gained control of US foreign policy. The mobsters were called “neoconservatives”– “neocons.” Their original roots can be traced back to the 1970s, when Democrats led by US Senator Henry “Scoop” Jackson parted paths with the anti-war New Left Democrats, led by Senator George McGovern, and joined up with militarist Cold War Republicans led by the demagogue Ronald Reagan – who was then California Governor.

The neocon movement achieved critical mass largely as result of the Soviet collapse of 1991, and then-POTUS GHW (Poppy) Bush’s proclamation of a “New World Order.” They called it the “Unipolar Moment.” According to the neocons, having supposedly “won” the Cold War against the Soviets, military superpower endowed the US with primacy over the whole world, and a mission to prevent the emergence of any “peer rivals” – forever.

The neocon plan called for “Full Spectrum Dominance.” It gestated during the Clinton years, when it was embodied as the Project for a New American Century (PNAC). It led to generation of a series of major Pentagon documents, including several Quadrennial Defense Reviews (QDRs), which all presumed US hegemony sufficiently powerful to build military bases all over the world, to launch preemptive or “preventive” wars, to enforce “regime change” in other countries, and to re-model them in a false image of American “democracy,” through totally unrealistic “nation-building” programs.

Partly as consequence of the technological and information revolution during those years, the neocon preparations for Full Spectrum Dominance were well developed by the time of the 9/11/01 attack on the World Trade Center and Pentagon by al-Qaeda operatives. By then, the neocons had been clamoring for years for war in Iraq – which Israel was demanding. All that was required to operationalize the plot to seize global control of strategic assets (oil, gas, and minerals, in particular) and real estate (proximate to sea lanes and chokepoints, in particular) – none of which was possible while the Soviet Union existed – was a triggering event, a good pretext and a cover story, like 9/11.

Led by Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld and Vice President Dick Cheney, the neocon mafia took the whole world down a warpath – the Global War on Terror – starting in Afghanistan and Iraq, which still continues today, after almost 25 years. All along, the GWOT has been a persuasive cover story for covert continuation of the Cold War. Every GWOT theater of war has doubled as part of a containment strategy directed against Russia and/or China and/or regional enemies, especially Iran.

There were and are many non-Jewish neocons. Among those with Jewish identity, another tribe can be identified, standing apart from both Trump’s and Biden’s respective Jews (but with substantial overlap among all three tribes, sharing Cold War objectives, Russophobia, Sinophobia, Islamophobia, corporate capitalism, and nationalist Zionism). An incomplete list of these neocon Jews would include: Deputy Secretary of Defense Paul Wolfowitz; Dick Cheney’s Chief of Staff Scooter Libby; Bush’s first speech-writer David Frum; PNAC co-founder and propagandist Robert Kagan; Deputy Secretary of State Victoria Nuland (Robert Kagan’s wife)- whose most notorious role in power probably would be orchestrating the 2014 coup in Ukraine; co-architect of the 2003 Iraq invasion Richard Perle – known as the “Prince of Darkness” for his opposition to arms control; writer and propagandist David Horowitz (RIP); writer, radio host, podcaster propagandist Ben Shapiro; Undersecretary of Defense Policy and co-architect of the 2003 Iraq invasion Douglas Feith; Cold Warrior Richard Pipes; anti-Islamic propagandist Daniel Pipes; pro-Zionist State Department Policy Director Dennis Ross; anti-Iranian propagandist Joshua Muravchik; President of National Endowment for Democracy Carl Gershman; and Madeleine Albright (RIP), Cold Warrior and anti-Islamic Secretary of State and UN Ambassador, who branded the US as an “indispensable nation,” and averred that killing Iraqi children was “worth it.”

Many neocons trace their philosophical roots to Jews like Norman Podhoretz (co-founder of PNAC, editor of Commentary, Cold Warrior, advocate for war in Iraq and Iran, during the Clinton years); Albert Wohlstetter (Cold Warrior military strategist, RAND consultant); Milton Friedman (conservative economist, adviser to Reagan); Irving Kristol (“godfather of neoconservatism”); Herman Kahn (nuclear war strategist, Cold Warrior, “Dr. Strangelove” model); and Leo Strauss (conservative philosopher).

Today, the neocon movement is diminished. It has been widely repudiated, especially by Trump’s “America First” MAGA World, because of the manifest disasters of the GWOT in Afghanistan and Iraq, and the abject failure of “nation-building” policies in those two countries. However, the main pillar of neocon genius was always Full Spectrum Dominance, and that remains fully embraced as the central organizing principle of US foreign and military policy.

Elected Jews

Tuned to the right frequency, your antennae can be sensitized to the common trope about how Jews run the United States government – and maybe even rule the world. True, there may be a somewhat greater proportion of Jews elected to public office, compared to percentage of the population. But it would be hallucinogenic and hyperbolic and to allege some kind of collective control. Jews cannot be expected to get along with one another, even when they have some common interests. Two Jews, three opinions.

It’s also true that, of those Jews elected to political leadership roles, almost all today are Democrats, and most would line up with yesterday’s Biden entourage – which has become irrelevant, after the electoral defeat of 2024. Like them, many could be labeled “social democrats,” but certainly not “Marxist radicals” or “leftist lunatics,” as Trump smears them. The tribe conforms to the Clintonian “centrist” policies that have defined the Party, its presidential candidates (Obama, Hillary, Biden, and Harris) and the DNC for over 30 years now. Most of them are arch-Zionists, fully invested in Israel’s slaughter of Palestinians. Only very few ever speak in defense of Israel’s victims.

Of the 50 states, there are six Jewish governors (5.5%), all Democrats: Jared Polis (CO), JB Pritzker (IL), Matt Meyer (MD), Josh Greenberg (HI), Josh Stein (NC), and Josh Shapiro (PA).

Of the 100 members of the US Senate, there are now 10 Jews (10%), all Democrats, except for Bernie Sanders (I-VT). These are: Adam Schiff (CA), Michael Bennet (CO), Richard Blumenthal (CT), Jon Ossoff (GA), Brian Schatz (HI), Elissa Slotkin (MI), Chuck Schumer (NY), Jacky Rosen (NV), and Ron Wyden (OR). Of these Senators, Sanders, Schatz, and Rosen have spoken out against Israel’s genocidal war on Palestine.

Of the 435 current members of the US House of Representatives, there are now 25 Jews (6%): 21 Democrats and 4 Republicans. The Democrats are: Becca Balint (VT), Brad Schneider (IL), Brad Sherman (CA), Dan Goldman (NY), Debbie Wasserman Schultz (FL), Alexander Vindman (VA), Greg Landsman (OH), Jake Auchincloss (MA), Jamie Raskin (MD), Jan Schakowsky (IL), Jared Moskowitz (FL), Jerry Nadler (NY), Josh Gottheimer (NJ), Kim Schrier (WA), Laura Friedman (CA), Lois Frankel (FL), Mike Levin (CA), Sara Jacobs (CA), Seth Magaziner (RI), Steve Cohen (TN), and Suzanne Bonamici (OR). Of these Representatives, Balint, Schakowsky, Jacobs, and Raskin have taken a principled position against Israel’s genocide in Palestine. As for the others, some might call themselves “progressive,” but most of them support a “muscular” foreign policy and Full Spectrum Dominance, and are militant Zionists who fear that criticizing Israel will result in their being labeled “bad” Jews, and then voted out of office.

The Republican Jews are: David Kustoff (TN), Max Miller (OH), Craig Goldman (TX), and Randy Fine (FL) – who has been on record loudly cheerleading for Israel’s genocide and ethnic cleansing of the Palestinians.

Mainstream Influencer Jews

There are several sub-tribes of Jews who collectively might be recognized as “influencers.” Their influence mostly comports with active support for Zionism and at least tacit support for genocide and ethnic cleansing in Palestine – the biggest of all issues that divide Jews today.

The biggest Jewish Zionist influencer organization would be AIPAC – the American Israel Public Affairs Committee, which has a membership of some five million and an enormous impact as a lobby in Congress. Secondly, the Conference of Presidents of Major American Jewish Organizations embraces a raft of similar arch-Zionist groups, including the Anti-Defamation League (ADL – led by Jonathan Greenblatt), the American Jewish Congress (AJC), the Washington Institute for Near East Policy (WINEP), the Zionist Organization of America, the Israel Policy Forum, the American Jewish Committee, the Religious Action Center of Reform Judaism, Americans for a Safe Israel, American Friends of Likud, Mercaz-USA, Hadassah, and B’nai B’rith. In slight contrast, J Street appears as a more “liberal” lobby group, as it is pro-Israel, but criticizes Netanyahu and Israel’s genocidal war, and advocates for the fantasy of a “two state solution.”

It should be noted that the biggest and most important pro-Zionist influencer organization, by far, is Evangelical Christian, and specifically Christians United for Israel (CUFI), which has a membership of some ten million today (twice as many as AIPAC!). It was founded in 1975 by Evangelical confabulist David Lewis, in Texas. Now led by pied-piper John Hagee, CUFI’s membership has exploded by a factor of ten, over the past decade or so. Following George W Bush’s GWOT as another Christian Crusade, CUFI seeks to control the course of events for the entire planet – no matter who gets hurt.

CUFI was founded on some myth-maker’s fever-dream of how, when Jews finally control Israel and all of Palestine, and destroy the al-Aqsa Mosque, they will usher in the prophesied Rapture, the Apocalypse, the Judgment Day, when Jesus returns, and everybody goes to Heaven, except for the Jews who refuse to be “saved by Christ,” and would therefore be damned to burn in Hell.

Given US military support and political cover for Israel, one might wonder if CUFI has hijacked Zionism – which has hijacked Judaism. Some would argue that it has been Jewish Zionists who have hijacked the Evangelicals. Either way, the relationship between Israel and Evangelicals has been nothing short of incestuous. Trump’s US Ambassador to Israel is Mike Huckabee – a militant Evangelical. It might also be argued that CUFI and other Evangelicals are attempting to hijack Christianity, as well as Zionism, given the movement of “Red Letter Christian” influencers who seek to counter CUFI influence by reaching out to Palestinians.

Apart from the pressure groups, there’s the media. As with the trope of Jews ruling the world, there is another related trope about Jews ruling the media and thus having outsized influence over information and political opinion. As an example, an incomplete list of Jews with frequent by-lines and op-eds in the preeminent print and online newspaper, namely the New York Times, would include among its Zionists names like publisher AG Sulzberger, editor-in-chief Joseph Kahn, and writers Bret Stephens, Thomas Friedman, David Brooks, Paul Krugman, and Roger Cohen.

In Israel, the press is dominated by the Jerusalem Post, and Times of Israel. Mainstream Israeli TV is totally dominated by Zionists, as well. Opposition press, especially Haaretz, 972 Magazine, Local Call, and Just Vision, influence Israel’s vastly outnumbered “liberal” or “leftist” minority.

In America, Jews in media whose faces are well-known representatives of corporate mainstream broadcasting would include: Ari Melber, Jon Berman, Jake Tapper, Andrea Mitchell, Rachel Maddow, Jennifer Rubin, Wolf Blitzer, Jamie Gangel, Leslie Gelb, Susan Glasser, Ted Koppel, Geraldo Rivera, David Sanger, Leslie Stahl, Chris Wallace, Mike Wallace, Barbara Walters, Larry Kudlow, Ben Shapiro, Mark Levin, Dan Abrams, and Jessica Tarlov.

Many of these individuals may have partisan sympathies but little latitude for independent thinking. They are constrained by the demands and expectations of their editors and corporate masters. They are not unified by any special tribal identity, other than their occupation. There is usually little ideological space that separates them, especially as their coverage pertains to Israel and Zionism – which their networks tend to avoid as subject matter, concentrating airtime instead mostly on domestic politics.

Criminal Jews

There are probably no groups or nations that don’t have their own malefactors. And, as with individuals, there are probably no groups or nations that don’t have dark sides. People are people. Everybody wants to think the best of themselves, but sometimes it’s imperative to take a good look in the mirror, and be honest about wrongdoing of oneself or one’s own people, especially if there’s been a longstanding policy of denying the ugly past, whitewashing history, and then assuming self-righteous moral superiority over others.

Back in the dark days of the Great Depression, there were some particularly bestial Jewish mobsters, whose tribe was called the National Crime Syndicate. They were bootleggers, drug dealers, protection racketeers, sex traffickers, bank robbers, and murderers. Amoral monsters, some became stinking filthy rich through their nefarious deeds. The main sub-tribe, Murder Inc., was the enforcement arm of the syndicate. An incomplete list of some of the most notorious criminals would include: Meyer Lansky, Bugsy (Benjamin) Siegel, Lucky (Charles) Luciano, Dutch Schultz (Arthur Simon Flegenheimer, aka Abraham Landau), Lefty (Frank) Rosenthal (portrayed as Sam “Ace” Rothstein by Robert DeNiro in “Casino”), Abraham “Kid Twist” Reles, Abner “Longie” Zwillman, Abraham “Whitey” Friedman, Abraham Weinberg, Albert “Ticktock” Tannenbaum, Arnold “The Brain” Rothstein, Bernard “Lulu” Rosencrantz, and Seymour Magoon. More recent Jewish mafia groups would include Jewish Underground, Kach, Jewish Defense League, and Sicarii.

Did Jewish organized crime ever end? Is there any good reason to think or believe that Jews can’t be criminals, or that criminals can’t be Jews? Over the past few decades, some of the most notorious Jewish criminals would include con-men and rip-off artists like Michael Milken, Bernie Madoff (RIP), Jack Abramoff, and Sam Bankman Fried. Jewish murderers would include David Berkowitz (aka Son of Sam), Baruch Goldstein, and Meir Kahane. Jewish sex criminals would include Harvey Weinstein, Joel Greenberg, and of particular recent interest, Jeffery Epstein, his accomplice Ghislaine Maxwell, and “business associates,” like Leon Black, Les Wexner, Henry Crown, and Marvin Minsky (RIP) – all of whom allegedly are tied to organized crime.

Just as it can’t be denied that there are criminals who are Jews, and Jews who are criminals, there appears to be yet another sub-tribe, whose malicious offenses are defined by mass murder. The war criminals considered here are Israelis, and they include Prime Minister Bibi Netanyahu, former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant (both of whom stand indicted by the International Criminal Court of war crimes and crimes against humanity), current Defense Minister Israel Katz, former Defense Minister Benny Gantz, National Security Minister Itamar ben Gvir, Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich, and President Isaac Herzog – just for starters.

It could be argued that American accomplices to these war criminals would include members of all the Jewish tribes considered so far here. Trump’s Jews, Biden’s Jews, Neocon Jews, Elected Jews, and their apologist Mainstream Influencer Jews, all deserve recognition for their complicity with Criminal Jews, in the Zionist project – which has been violating Palestinian human rights since the very beginning of the nationalist state of Israel.

Dissident Jews

Since the Hamas breakout of 10/7/23 – which, again, had the explicit intention of thwarting the Abraham Accords between Israel and several Arab nations, as purveyed by Jared Kushner, in behalf of Donald Trump – the world has been witness to the most horrendous episode of death and destruction in the Middle East in modern history. The GWOT wars of GW Bush, in Afghanistan, Iraq and Syria (and elsewhere) are close rivals for that title, but none of them descended quite so deeply into the abject sadism of wanton slaughter and starvation and ethnic cleansing of civilians, women and children, journalists, healthcare providers, aid workers, and humanitarians. It is quite possible that the violence will continue to spread throughout the region, beyond Iran, Lebanon, Yemen, Turkiye, Iraq, Syria, and now Qatar and Tunisia, that the wildfire will merge with the simultaneous catastrophes in Ukraine and Sudan, given that all these conflicts stem from the same root of imperial geopolitics.

The scale and savagery of the violence in Palestine have been unfathomable, but the purpose here is not to repeat what many sources have already reported. Instead, the good news is that, since the genocide began, two years ago, the brutal insanity and the insane brutality have galvanized a growing resistance movement, among what may emerge as a new (or revindicated) tribe of Jews, who all recoil in horror, revulsion, and disgust at the reflected image of Israel as a fascist oppressor regime, the former victim that became an unrestrained victimizer with an insatiable blood-lust. Some two-thirds of American Jews (and about an equal percentage of Democrat voters) now reportedly oppose the displacement and genocide of Palestinians. Are these Jews “leftists,” as they are smeared? Or “socialists?” Are they “self-hating” Jews, as is so often alleged? Are they “traitors” to their identity? No.

They are coming together from every corner of the Jewish population: young and old, Reform and Conservative and Orthodox, American and Israeli and other nationalities, and with their non-Jewish allies, they are taking a stand against the Israeli regime. They are motivated in large part by very Jewish traditions of truth, justice, conscience, and moral clarity. They are also motivated by outrage at having their religious values hijacked and violated in their names, by a deranged mob of thugs, goons, murderers, war criminals and genocidaires. They refuse to be dragged back centuries into the dark past, when some of their very genocidal ancestors decimated Amelekites, Canaanites, Philistines, and other indigenous peoples who preceded the Israelites in the Levant – and whose descendants have come to be known as Palestinians.

Anti-Zionist Jews have existed for as long as organized Zionism has existed – since the 19th century. They always regarded a nationalized Jewish state as a very bad idea. Some of them were viewed as total heretics, who denied that, thousands of years ago (according to mythology), some hallucination referred to as “God” gave the Levant to modern-day Israel, or that Jews were “chosen people,” who could walk on air and do no wrong, or that Jews could somehow transcend both their innate tribalism and the far-flung Diaspora to generate the central organized power of a state.

Ironically, there has rarely been a historical situation that approximates today’s apparent need to band together and present a unified resistance to fascists who have railroaded Jewish identity into the exact epitome of the monster that they purported to never become. Face one big fact. Israel is a rogue state. And it’s a Jew Thing. Which means that it’s the special responsibility of Jews to deal with it.

If this new tribe deserves a name, it might do well to call it “Noam Chomsky’s tribe” (whatever tribe he would say he belongs to), as he stands as one stellar example of Jews who have challenged Zionism, imperialism, and colonialism, for decades. An incomplete list of other obvious members of that tribe of dissidents would include (in no particular order): Albert Einstein (RIP), Howard Zinn (RIP), Dan Ellsberg (RIP), Uri Avnery (RIP), Richard Falk, Francesca Albanese, Norman Finkelstein, Philip Weiss, Naomi Klein, Max Blumenthal, Ilán Pappé, Gabor Maté, Aaron Maté, Gideon Levy, Daniel Levy, M. Gessen, Ben Cohen, Jerry Greenfield, Tom Englehardt, Antony Loewenstein, Seymour Hersh, Medea Benjamin, Winona LaDuke, Jeffery Sachs, Kenneth Roth, Errol Morris, David Sirota, Ron Unz, Jill Stein, Sam Stein, Sam Seder, Peter Beinart, Glenn Greenwald, Anne Applebaum, Jon Stewart, Seth Meyers, Katie Halper, Yuval Noah Hariri, Omer Bartov, and Amy Goodman – who is perhaps the heaviest of them all, given the almost daily airtime committed to Palestine by Democracy Now!, across several media platforms.

At this point, a movement center has not developed, but there is significant coalescence of smaller organizations, which have exploded dramatically over the past two years – since 10/7/23. In the US, these groups would included: Jewish Voice for Peace, If Not Now, Not In Our Name, New Jewish Narrative, Code Pink, Peace Action, and T’ruah (formerly Rabbis for Human Rights – North America). In Israel, Peace Now, Gush Shalom, B’Tselem, Physicians for Human Rights, Breaking the Silence, Looking the Occupation in the Eye, and the Israeli-Palestinian Bereaved Families Forum have taken leading roles and have mobilized huge demonstrations in the streets. It should go without saying that these groups embrace non-Jews from every quarter who share in the same protest, all over the world.

Worthy of notice here, there are several other important dissenting Jews, whose attention is balanced more toward domestic politics than Palestine, and whose bias clearly is on the side of Democrats, or at least on the side of resistance to Donald Trump. Here, the Indivisible organization, led by Ezra Levin and Leah Greenberg, has done some remarkable work getting protesters mobilized and into the streets. It should also be mentioned that podcasters Brian Tyler Cohen, Mark Elias, and Harry Litman all speak out energetically as both Jews and Democrats and legal experts, but are mostly focused on resistance to Donald Trump, rather than on Palestine.

Which brings up an important question: Whereas there is no clear Democratic Party leadership today, since the Harris defeat, it is also not at all clear whether Elected Democrat Jews (and non-Jews) can find the will to clean their own house and confront themselves – the majority of whom are Zionists and were always complicit in the genocidal pro-Israel policy of the Biden administration. There are many who believe that the Harris presidential campaign of 2024 was doomed to fail, and that they blew the election, due to their refusal to address the Palestine catastrophe from the right side of history. Would they make the same counter-productive and self-defeating mistake again, going forward? The DNC shows no sign today that it can get off the dime – to the detriment of any emerging leadership.

Conclusion

So, is Donald Trump antisemitic? An easier question to answer is which tribe of Jews does he find affinity with? Jews have always been very tribal, and the tribes have rarely gotten along well with one another. At present, most tribes have long since bought into Zionist ideology, and trying to change their minds is a fool’s mission. But, as the general population is concerned, most American Jews and most Democrats have crossed over to an anti-Zionist and pro-Palestinian position, and many have generated an anti-Zionist resistance movement, though it has yet to coalesce or gain wide recognition.

A serious inter-tribal power struggle is underway, because so many Jews just can’t get with a program that is based on genocide and ethnic cleansing – the very thing they learned as children to abhor, reject and resist. The cognitive dissonance is just too extreme. Meantime, the Democrats (Jew and non-Jew alike), as represented by the DNC, cannot be trusted to do the right thing. So count on the dissidents to find the way forward, to revindicate the best traditional values of the people, and to confront and banish the war criminals from within.
